Succulent Identifier Support

Succulent Identifier is an iPhone app that identifies succulents from a photo. Point the camera at a plant or pick a photo, and it returns a likely species with light, watering, and soil notes. It also has a browsable catalog of species and a shared map of succulent sightings that anyone can add a pin to.

Common questions

How many identifications do I get?

Five a month without a subscription. Pro raises that to 1,000 a month. The count resets on the 1st.

What happens to the photos I identify?

The photo is resized on your phone and sent to the developer's Convex backend, which passes it to OpenAI's vision model to identify the plant. It isn't stored in a database or attached to any account. The copy you keep in your collection stays on your device.

Does the map show where I live?

No. Before a pin is sent, the app randomly shifts your coordinate by up to about 120 metres, and only the shifted coordinate is ever sent or shown. Exact coordinates never leave your phone.

How do I remove a pin I added?

Open the pin and delete it — pins you created on that device show a delete option. Ownership is proved by a secret stored on your device, so a pin can only be removed from the device that created it. You can also report someone else's pin.

How do I restore my subscription?

Open the Pro screen and tap Restore. The subscription is tied to your Apple Account, so it restores on any device signed in to it.

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app and everything stored on your device goes with it. There is no account to close. Map pins you posted are public and stay on the map unless you delete them first, from the device that created them.
